Sanctus Real is an American Christian rock music band from Toledo, Ohio that was formed in 1996. The band consists of lead vocalist Matt Hammitt, guitarist Chris Rohman, drummer Mark Graalman, and bassist Pete Prevost. Since their formation, they have released eight studio albums and have achieved mainstream success through their impeccable songwriting and strong faith.
Success
The band has enjoyed a long list of successes throughout the 2000s. Their single “Lead Me” was awarded Song of the Year at the 39th GMA Dove Awards in 2008. In 2009, their single “Forgiven” was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album. Additionally, the band won six awards at the 2010 GMA Dove Awards.
Collaborations
Sanctus Real has collaborated with some of Christian music's most celebrated artists, including TobyMac, Switchfoot, and Kevin Max. They released their first collaboration with TobyMac in 2010 with the single “Shine On.” Their collaboration with Switchfoot, “You Are a Mystery” was featured on their album Pieces of a Real Heart in 2011.
