Who is Serge Beynaud?

Serge Beynaud is a French pop singer, songwriter and music producer from Abidjan, Ivory Coast. He is widely recognized as one of the most influential figures in African music and has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the industry. He began his career in 2009 and has since released several chart-topping singles and albums.

Early Life

Serge Beynaud was born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast in 1979. He grew up listening to local music and was inspired by the likes of Alpha Blondy, Papa Wemba and Youssou N’Dour. He started playing guitar at the age of 12 and wrote his first song at 16. After completing his studies in 1999, he joined a local band as a guitarist and soon began producing music.

Career

In 2009, Serge Beynaud released his debut single “Okeninkpin” which topped charts all over Africa. He followed it up with another hit single “Dibi Dibi Rek” in 2010. His debut album “Sergeology” was released in 2011 to critical acclaim. He has since released several critically acclaimed albums including “Totofoloco” (2013), “Cabotine” (2015) and “Ame Caline” (2018). He has also collaborated with some of the biggest names in African music including Ko-C, Fally Ipupa and MHD.

Awards

Serge Beynaud has won several awards throughout his career including two Afrima Awards for Best Male Artist (Central Africa) in 2012 and 2016. In 2018 he won the Kora Award for Best Francophone Artist.
