Who is Shayne Ward?

Shayne Ward is an English singer-songwriter and actor known for winning the second series of The X Factor in 2005. He has achieved four UK number one singles, sold over four million records worldwide, and was awarded with two BRIT Awards nominations.

Early Years

Born Shayne Thomas Ward on October 16th 1984 in Manchester, England to Philomena and Bob Ward. He has two brothers and a sister. When he was seven years old he acted in Coronation Street as Damien Scott. He attended St Bede’s College and St Kentigern’s College in Blackburn before getting a job as a warehouse worker at the Trafford Centre in Manchester.

Career

In 2005 Ward auditioned for the second series of The X Factor singing “That’s My Goal”. After making it through to the finals he eventually became the winner beating runner-up Andy Abraham with 53.7% of the public vote on December 11th 2005. His winner’s single “That’s My Goal” sold over 1 million copies becoming the fourth fastest selling single in UK chart history at the time. In April 2006 his debut studio album was released titled “Breathless” which went to number one in the UK Albums Chart and was certified triple platinum by the BPI. In December 2007 he released his second studio album titled “Obsession” which also went to number one in the UK Albums Chart and was certified platinum by the BPI. He was also nominated for two BRIT Awards in 2007; Best British Male Solo Artist and Best British Album for “Breathless”. In 2010 he released his third studio album titled “Gravity” which peaked at number twenty nine in the UK Albums Chart and was certified silver by the BPI.

Personal Life

Ward married Sophie Austin in 2019 after getting engaged in 2018. They have two children together; a daughter and a son. In 2017 he revealed that he had been diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy, a form of facial paralysis caused by damage or trauma to facial nerves.
