Who is SHYGIRL?

Born and raised in London, SHYGIRL is a multi-talented producer, artist and DJ whose unique blend of grime, rap, UK garage and electronica has made her an underground sensation. Having been praised by the likes of Pitchfork and The Guardian for her intense live performances and boundary-pushing productions, SHYGIRL is quickly establishing herself as one of the most exciting artists to emerge from London’s music scene in recent years.

SHYGIRL’s Music

In 2018, SHYGIRL released her debut EP ‘Cruel Practice’ to widespread critical acclaim. The record saw her pushing boundaries between UK garage and grime, experimenting with abstract vocal samples and distorted beats to create a sound that was wholly her own. Since then she has gone on to produce for a number of well-known artists, including M.I.A., Giggs and AJ Tracey.

Live Performances

SHYGIRL has made a name for herself with her intense live performances. She often combines her original productions with grime classics to create an energetic atmosphere that has earned her spots at some of the biggest festivals in Europe. She also makes regular appearances at some of London’s most iconic clubs as part of her residency at FOLD in East London.

Influences

SHYGIRL cites a range of artists as influences on her sound, from grime pioneers like Dizzee Rascal and Skepta to house acts like Todd Edwards and Jamie XX. She also draws inspiration from non-musical figures such as the performance artist Ron Athey and the writer Sianne Ngai. Her ever-evolving sound is constantly being shaped by these influences.
