The Early Years

Silentó is an American rapper and singer-songwriter from Atlanta, Georgia. His real name is Richard Lamar Hawk. He was born in 1997 and raised in Stone Mountain, Georgia. He started his music career at the age of 11 with a group of friends called Team Bayside High.

Breakthrough with “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)”

In 2015, Silentó released his debut single “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” which became an international hit. The song peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified six-times platinum by the RIAA. It was also successful in countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United Kingdom. The song was accompanied by a viral dance challenge which helped to make it even more popular. The success of “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” made Silentó one of the most prominent figures in the hip hop scene of 2015.

Recent Years

Following the success of “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)”, Silentó released his debut EP titled “For You” in 2016. The EP featured guest appearances from artists such as Rich Homie Quan and YG. However, it did not match the success of his breakthrough single. In 2018, he dropped his second EP titled “Fresh Outta High School” which received mixed reviews from critics. In 2019, Silentó released his third EP titled “The Shapeshifter” which has been well-received by fans and critics alike. Aside from music, he has also appeared in films such as “Barbershop: The Next Cut” and “We Are Your Friends”. He is currently working on new music and will be embarking on a tour in 2020.}
