Skunk Anansie: A Unique British Rock Band

Skunk Anansie is a British rock band formed in 1994 by four members: Deborah Anne Dyer (Skin), Martin Ivor Kent (Ace), Richard Keith Lewis (Cass) and Mark Richardson (Smoak). The band combines punk, metal and soul to create a unique sound. Skunk Anansie has released six studio albums, achieving mainstream success with the release of their debut album Paranoid & Sunburnt in 1995. They have also had several hit singles, including “Weak” and “Hedonism (Just Because You Feel Good)”.

Early Career

Skunk Anansie formed in 1994 in London when Skin and Ace decided to form a band. They recruited Cass and Smoak to complete the lineup. The band began touring extensively throughout Europe, and released their first EP, Proof, in 1995. This was followed by their debut studio album, Paranoid & Sunburnt, which achieved both commercial success and critical acclaim. The band's second album, Stoosh, was released in 1996 and was an even bigger success than its predecessor.

Mainstream Success

Skunk Anansie achieved mainstream success in the late 1990s with the release of their third album Post Orgasmic Chill. The album spawned several hit singles including “Secretly” and “Weak” which reached number 4 on the UK Singles chart. The band's fourth album, Wonderlustre, was released in 2010 and was another commercial success for the band. It featured the hit single “My Ugly Boy” which reached number 8 on the UK Singles chart.

Collaborations

Skunk Anansie has collaborated with numerous other artists over the years including Catatonia, Robbie Williams, Sting and Sinead O'Connor. In 2009 they collaborated with Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour on his solo album On an Island.

Recent Activity

The band's most recent album is Anarchytecture which was released in 2016. It featured the singles “Death to the Lovers” and “We Are the Flames”. The band is currently touring Europe and is set to tour North America later this year.
