Early Life
Stephen Marley was born on April 20, 1972 in Wilmington, Delaware to Bob Marley and Rita Marley. He was named after his father's middle name, “Nesta”, which means “strong willed” in the Rastafarian culture. Stephen began playing music when he was just five years old and released his first single when he was twelve. In 1988, he joined the group Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers alongside his siblings Ziggy, Sharon, Cedella, and Rohan.
Career
Stephen's career began to take off in the early 1990s when he started producing music for Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers. He went on to produce for other artists such as Chaka Khan and Lauryn Hill. In 2003, Stephen released his debut solo album Mind Control which won a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2008. His second album Revelation Part I: The Root of Life was released in 2011 and won another Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 2012. In addition to his solo career, Stephen has also collaborated with other artists on various projects including Damian Marley's Welcome to Jamrock (2005) and SuperHeavy (2011).
