Who is Yahaira Plasencia?
Yahaira Plasencia is a Peruvian singer, songwriter, actress, and dancer from Lima, Peru. She began her career as a child star in the mid-90s and has since become an internationally renowned Latin music icon. Plasencia has released numerous singles and albums that have topped the Latin charts in Peru, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico. She has also received several awards for her work in the Latin music industry.
Early Career
Plasencia got her start as a child actor in the popular Peruvian telenovela series “La Esclavitud” in 1995. She then went on to study theater at the National University of San Marcos in Lima. During her studies, she began to write and compose her own songs, which eventually led to a record deal with Universal Music Latino in 2001. After signing with Universal Music Latino, she released her debut album “Yahaira” in 2003 which featured collaborations with many well-known Latin artists such as Lalo Ebratt and Silvestre Dangond.
Breakthrough Success
In 2013, Plasencia released her third studio album “Pasión” which featured collaborations with some of the biggest names in Latin music including Ozuna and Karol G. The album's lead single “Me Voy” became an international hit and earned her multiple awards including the Latin Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Album. This marked the beginning of her breakthrough success on the international stage.
Recent Work
Plasencia has continued to release successful albums over the past few years including “Mírame” (2015) and “Siempre Yo” (2018). In 2019 she collaborated with fellow Peruvian artist Kina Malpartida on the single “Dónde Estás” which was featured on Malpartida's album “Amor Prohibido”. Plasencia continues to tour internationally in support of her solo albums as well as collaborating with other Latin artists.
