Status: Endangered Population: 1000 - 2499 Found: Brazil, Guyana, Suriname, Venezuela The stunning Sun Parakeet inhabits dry, forested slopes and is recognised by its magnificent, bright ‘sunshine’ plumage. This bird’s call is a high-pitched squawk similar to other parakeets. It is currently only found in small pockets in the northernmost countries of South America and faces increasing pressure from trapping for the pet trade. Shika Shika is currently preparing the third Volume of the ‘Birdsong’ series which will focus on endangered birds in Western Africa.
