The Thick-billed Parrot is found in the high pine, fir and conifer forests of Mexico’s Sierra Madre Occidental. It is classified as Endangered and its population is believed to be in rapid decline mainly due to the loss of old-growth forest to large-scale logging or agriculture. Trapping for the illegal pet trade also poses a threat.
