Jocotoco Antpitta

Status: Endangered Population: 150 - 700 Found: Ecuador, Peru The fascinatingly strange Jocotoco Antpitta was only discovered in 1997 and today can be found in the undergrowth of the wet, montane forests in southern Ecuador and northern Peru. It has a distinct low pitched song or a softer ‘ho-co’ call. It is only found in five locations and, due to its specific habitat requirements which is under threat from road construction, the species’ population is in decline. Shika Shika is currently preparing the third Volume of the ‘Birdsong’ series which will focus on endangered birds in Western Africa. All of the money raised from the sale of these NFTs will go towards funding the creation of the album, enabling us to donate 100% of sales to bird conservation in the region.
