The São Tomé Grosbeak is a large pot-bellied, chestnut brown finch endemic to the primary forests of the highlands of this equatorial archipelago. It travels in pairs or alone and comes to the forest understory to feed on seeds that it crushes with its powerful bill. Classified as ‘Critically Endangered’, it is threatened by habitat degradation and introduced predators.
