Gregory Alan Isakov is an American singer-songwriter and musician from Boulder, CO. He has been releasing music since 2003 and has toured extensively with his indie folk music. His songs have appeared in many television shows and films, including Grey's Anatomy, Parenthood, and The Office. Isakov has collaborated with a number of other artists, most recently with The Colorado Symphony Orchestra and Josh Ritter.
Isakov was born in Johannesburg, South Africa and moved to Philadelphia in his early teens. It was during this time that he began writing songs, but he didn’t start performing them until after he moved to Colorado in 2000. After settling in Boulder, Isakov took up guitar lessons and began playing local shows. In 2003, he released his first album, Rust Colored Stones. Since then, he has released four more albums, including his most recent, Evening Machines in 2018.
Isakov’s music has often been described as “folk noir” due to its melancholic sound. His songs are often about the struggles of everyday life and finding hope in difficult times. He often explores themes of love and loss as well as nature and the environment. Isakov has collaborated with a number of other artists over the years, including The Colorado Symphony Orchestra for his 2017 live album Gregory Alan Isakov with the Colorado Symphony. He also worked with fellow singer-songwriter Josh Ritter for the song “Bad Actor” on his 2018 album Evening Machines.
