Gyptian was born in Saint Andrew, Jamaica. He grew up in a musical family and was heavily influenced by his mother's singing. As a child, he sang in his church choir and was influenced by such acts as Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, Gregory Isaacs, and Michael Jackson. As he grew older he got more interested in dancehall music.
Career
Gyptian began his music career in 2006 when he signed to VP Records. He released his debut album My Name Is Gyptian in 2006 which featured the hit single ""Serious Times"". The album made it to the top of the Billboard Reggae chart. In 2009 he released the single ""Hold Yuh"" which became an international success, reaching the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. He followed this success up with the release of his second album I Can Feel Your Pain in 2012 which reached number 4 on the Billboard Reggae chart. Since then he has released three more albums: Sex Love & Reggae (2014), We Live (2016), and Reggae Music Again (2018).
