Summary Jhay Cortez is a Puerto Rican Reggaeton artist. Before his career as a singer started, he was writing songs for other established Reggaeton artists. Early Days Jhay’s real name is Jesús Manuel Nieves Cortez. Born in Rio Piedras Puerto Rico, he moved to Camden New York in second grade. From the age of eleven, he became enticed with Reggaeton. The energized artists inspired him, and he began writing songs. Putting pen to paper became his mode of expression. As the years passed, he moved on to production and acquired knowledge of the fruity loops software program. He then began creating instrumentals. As his talent grew, he came under the radar of various reggaeton artists, which led him to sell his beats. He sold his earliest tracks to Zion Y Lennox and Tito El Bambino. By the age of sixteen, he didn’t feel ready to come forward as an artist, as he was still developing his style. Career In 2013 Jhay became a part of the Latin band “Stereo 4”, he remained with them for three years and later decided to go solo. As his popularity picked up, he was spotted by A&R and signed to Universal Latin Entertainment. He then released his first song, “Donde no se vea” followed by the “No Me Conoces- Remix” with J Balvin and Bad Bunny. The track reached the Billboard top ten. Writing for artists, he co-wrote songs such as Natti Natasha’s “Criminal”, Liam Payne & J Balvin’s “Familiar” and Cardi B’s “I like it”. By 2019 he released his debut album ‘Famuoz”, the song entered the Billboard chart, and the following year he re-released it as “Famouz reloaded” which included extra unreleased tracks.
