Joe Satriani - An Overview

Joe Satriani (born July 15, 1956) is an American instrumental rock guitarist and composer fromLong Island, New York. He is a 15-time Grammy Award nominee and has sold over 10 million albums worldwide. He is well known for playing songs like ""Surfing with the Alien"", ""Always with Me, Always with You"" and ""Crying"" at live shows.

Satriani's Early Life and Career

Satriani's first guitar was a gift from his father when he was 14. At the same time, he began taking lessons from guitar teacher Ron Forbes. During the summer of 1974, he attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts and took additional private lessons from guitarist and composer Pat Martino. After leaving Berklee, Satriani returned to Long Island and continued to teach guitar.

Satriani's Solo Career

In 1986, Satriani released his debut solo album Not of This Earth. His next album Flying in a Blue Dream (1989) became a major commercial success and established him as a respected guitarist in the music industry. He followed this success with The Extremist (1992), which spawned hits like ""Summer Song"" and ""Friends"". Satriani then went on to collaborate with other famous musicians, such as Steve Vai and Eric Johnson, to form the G3 tour.

Satriani's Notable Accomplishments

Satriani has been nominated for 15 Grammy awards throughout his career. He has also been honored by the International Music Software Trade Association as Guitar Player of the Year four times. In 2003, he received an honorary degree from Berklee College of Music for his contributions to music. In 2010, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Chickenfoot.
