Satriani's Early Life and Career
Satriani's first guitar was a gift from his father when he was 14. At the same time, he began taking lessons from guitar teacher Ron Forbes. During the summer of 1974, he attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts and took additional private lessons from guitarist and composer Pat Martino. After leaving Berklee, Satriani returned to Long Island and continued to teach guitar.
Satriani's Solo Career
In 1986, Satriani released his debut solo album Not of This Earth. His next album Flying in a Blue Dream (1989) became a major commercial success and established him as a respected guitarist in the music industry.
