José Luis Rodríguez, also known as El Puma, is a Venezuelan singer-songwriter, actor and TV host. He's one of the most successful Latin American artists of all times. He began his career in the 1960s and has had an incredible career spanning over five decades. He's been awarded several music awards and was even given the title “The King of Latin Pop” by the press.
Early Life
Rodriguez was born on September 28th 1945 in Caracas, Venezuela. His parents were from Spain and he was raised in a very close-knit family where music was always a part of everyday life. At the age of 11 he began to take guitar lessons and soon after started performing in local venues.
Career
In 1964, Rodriguez signed his first record deal with CBS Records and released his debut album titled “La Voz”. The album was an immediate success and Rodriguez became an overnight sensation in Venezuela. He went on to release several albums throughout the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s which cemented his status as a legendary singer-songwriter in Latin America. In the 1990s he began to focus more on acting and hosting TV shows but continued to release music throughout his career.

Rodriguez has been awarded several awards throughout his career including a Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album for his album “Viva el Amor” in 1999. He was also inducted into the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2010 for his contribution to Latin music.
