Who is Koffee?

Koffee is a 19-year-old Jamaican singer, songwriter, rapper and producer. She first caught the public’s attention with her 2017 single “Toast” and has since become one of the hottest names in reggae music. She is the youngest artist to win the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album.

Early Life

Koffee was born Mikayla Simpson in Spanish Town, Jamaica in 2001. Growing up, she was exposed to music and culture from an early age due to her mother’s involvement in local theatre. She began writing music at age seven, and at age eleven, her mother enrolled her in a performing arts school where she continued to hone her craft.

Career

In 2017, Koffee released her debut single “Toast” which quickly became a hit in Jamaica and has since amassed over 8 million views on YouTube. The following year, she released her second single “Burning” which was also a success. In 2019, she released her debut EP Rapture which featured the singles “Toast” and “Burning” as well as six other tracks. Her debut album Rapture won the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album.

Collaborations

Koffee has collaborated with a number of artists including Tory Lanez, Gunna, H.E.R., and Governor. In 2020 she collaborated with Diplo on the remix of her single “W” as part of his Higher Ground EP. She also collaborated with Skip Marley on his single “Slow Down” which was released in 2021.

Awards & Accomplishments

Koffee has received numerous awards and accolades throughout her career including two BET Awards for Best New International Act and Best Reggae Act in 2019. In 2020 she won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album for her debut album Rapture becoming the youngest artist to ever win the award. She has also been nominated for numerous awards including two MTV Video Music Awards in 2020.
