LeToya Nicole Luckett, known professionally as LeToya, is an American singer-songwriter, actress and businesswoman. She first gained fame as a founding member of the R&B girl group Destiny's Child, with which she won two Grammy Awards. Luckett has sold over 25 million records with Destiny's Child as a solo artist.
Early Life and Career
Luckett was born on March 11, 1981 in Houston, Texas. She began performing at age four in church plays and talent shows. When she was six years old, she sang at the 1991 NBA All-Star Game and later sang the national anthem at many Houston Rockets games. At age 15, she joined a girl group in her hometown that would later become Destiny's Child.
Destiny's Child
Luckett was a founding member of Destiny's Child alongside Beyoncé Knowles and Kelly Rowland. With the group, she has released two studio albums and two live albums. The group went on to become one of the world's best-selling girl groups of all time.
Solo Career
Luckett released her debut solo album titled LeToya on July 25, 2006 with Capitol Records. The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling over 185,000 copies in its first week. After a long hiatus from music, Luckett released her second album titled Lady Love on August 25, 2009. The album debuted at number one on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
