Local Natives: Indie Rock Band from Los Angeles
Local Natives are an indie rock band from Los Angeles, California. The five-piece band consists of members Kelcey Ayer (vocals, piano, guitar), Ryan Hahn (guitar, keyboard), Taylor Rice (vocals, guitar), Matt Frazier (drums) and Nik Ewing (vocals, bass). Formed in 2005 and active since 2009, they have released three studio albums and a handful of EPs.
The band's sound is a mix of indie rock, alternative rock and folk rock with a bit of pop influence. Their debut album Gorilla Manor (2009) was nominated for the Mercury Prize and their follow-up Hummingbird (2013) debuted at No. 12 on the Billboard 200 chart. They have collaborated with other artists such as Jenny Lewis, HAIM and Passion Pit.
In 2019 they returned with their third album Violet Street. The album was well received by critics and fans alike with its hazy psychedelic atmosphere. The lead single “When Am I Gonna Lose You” was nominated for Song of the Year at the 2020 Grammy Awards. Most recently they released the single “Statues In The Garden (Arras)” which was featured on the original soundtrack of the movie In The Heights.
