Early Life and Career
Mateus was born in Bogotá, Colombia on June 8th, 1975. He began playing guitar at an early age and was heavily influenced by traditional Colombian music. In 1996 he founded his own musical group called Cali Ajiaco. The group released two albums before disbanding in 2002.
Solo Career
In 2005, Mateus released his debut solo album ""Por Primera Vez"". The album was well received and spawned two hit singles ""Lo Que Me Duele"" and ""No Te Vayas"". The album was later nominated for a Latin Grammy Award for Best Traditional Tropical Album in 2006. In 2010 Mateus released his second solo album titled ""Deseo"" which also achieved success with its lead single ""Me Voy"".
