She was born as Melanie Fiona Hallim in Toronto, Canada in 1984 and showed her proclivity for music from an early age. She began singing at the age of 4 and was a member of her church choir throughout high school. After graduating, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue music full time.
Early Career
In 2005, Fiona released her debut mixtape, The Bridge. The mixtape's success resulted in a major label deal with Universal Music Group and the release of her first single, “Give It To Me Right”, which reached the top 10 on both US and Canadian pop charts. Her debut album, The Bridge, was released in 2009 and featured collaborations with John Legend and Common. The album was certified gold in Canada.
Mainstream Success
Melanie Fiona’s second album, The MF Life (2012), charted in the top 5 of the Billboard 200 albums chart. The album won the 2012 Grammy Award for best traditional R&B performance for its single “Fool for You” featuring CeeLo Green. She has also collaborated with artists such as J.
