Who is Mr. Vegas?
Mr. Vegas is a Jamaican dancehall and reggae artist whose real name is Clifford Smith. He was born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1975 and started his music career in 1997 with the release of his debut album, Heads High. Since then, he’s gone on to collaborate with some of the biggest names in reggae music, including Beenie Man, Shaggy, and Mya. Early Career
In his early career, Mr. Vegas had a string of hits from his first album, Heads High, including “Nike Air” and “Mus Come A Road”. He also released several successful singles in the late 1990s, including “Jack It Up” and “Hot Gal Today”. His second album, Damn Right!, was released in 2000 and featured the hit singles “She's A Ho” and “Heads High (Murder She Wrote)”, which became an international hit. Breakthrough Success
In 2004, Mr. Vegas broke through to mainstream success with the release of his single “Pull Up”. The song was a smash hit in the UK and reached number 10 on the UK Singles Chart. He followed up with two more successful singles, “Hot Wuk” and “Tek Weh Yuhself”, both of which reached the Top 20 of the UK Singles Chart. Recent Projects
Since then, Mr. Vegas has continued to make music and has released several albums including Reggae Max (2007), Sweet Jamaica (2012), Sweet Jamaica Remixed (2013), Lovers Rock (2015), and more recently Sweet Jamaica Acoustic (2020). Mr. Vegas has won numerous awards throughout his career including a MOBO Award (UK Music Awards) for Best Reggae Artist in 2005, an MTV Europe Music Award for Best Caribbean Act in 2006, and two International Reggae & World Music Awards for Best Male Vocalist in 2007 and 2008.
