The Succes Story of NOFX
The Origins of NOFX
NOFX is an American punk rock band that was formed in Los Angeles, California in 1983. The original lineup included vocalist/bassist Fat Mike and guitarist Eric Melvin. The two had been playing music together for a couple of years when they decided to form a band. They recruited drummer Erik Sandin to join them, and then added a second guitarist, Dave Casillas, to complete the lineup.
Early Career
In 1984, NOFX released their debut album, Liberal Animation. The album was well-received by the punk community and quickly gained them a cult following. It also served as a launching pad for their career as they began to tour extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe. Over the next few years, NOFX continued to tour and release albums with increasing success.
Breakthrough Success
By the early 1990s, NOFX had become one of the most successful punk acts in the world. Their 1994 album Punk in Drublic went gold in both the U.S. and Canada and spawned several hit singles including “Linoleum” and “Perfect Government”. The success of Punk in Drublic helped propel NOFX to mainstream success as they were featured on MTV and even landed a spot on Saturday Night Live.
Recent Years
NOFX has continued to tour and release albums consistently over the past two decades. They have also collaborated with numerous other bands such as Rancid, Bad Religion, Flogging Molly and Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. The band’s most recent album, First Ditch Effort, was released in 2016 to great critical acclaim. NOFX is currently working on their thirteenth studio album which is set for release sometime in 2019.
