Early Life
Watson was born in 1973 in Montreal. He started playing piano at the age of five and eventually taught himself to play the guitar. He began writing music when he was twelve. At fifteen he joined a band called Gangster Politics and at sixteen he started his own band called Jet Black.

Watson released his debut album Close to Paradise in 2006 with his band The Wooden Arms. The album earned him the Polaris Music Prize and two Juno Awards for Best New Artist and Best Alternative Album. He also contributed to the soundtrack of the 2010 movie Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.
