Roy Levesta Jones Jr., better known as Roy Jones Jr., is an American rapper, singer-songwriter, record producer, actor, boxing commentator, and former professional boxer. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest boxers of all time. He competed in boxing from 1989 to 2018 and held multiple world championships in four weight classes. He was born on January 16th 1966 in Pensacola, Florida.
Early Life & Career
As a youngster Jones developed a passion for the sport of boxing and began training at a local gym. He had an amateur career that lasted from 1984 to 1988 and compiled a record of 121-13. After turning pro in 1989, he quickly rose to prominence in the boxing world by winning his first 24 fights (22 by knockout).
Music Career
In addition to boxing, Roy has also had a successful career as a musician. In 1994 he released his debut album Round One: The Album which spawned the popular single “Y’all Must’ve Forgot” featuring Chingy. Since then he has released several other albums including Body Head Bangerz (2003) and Go Hard or Go Home (2008). He has also collaborated with numerous renowned hip hop artists such as Busta Rhymes, Trick Daddy, Notorious B.I.G., 50 Cent, and Ludacris.
Acting & Other Ventures
In addition to his music and boxing career, Roy has also appeared in several films such as The Matrix Reloaded (2003) and Universal Soldier: The Return (1999). He has also served as a boxing commentator for HBO and Showtime and launched his own clothing line called “RJJ Gear” in 2013.
