Who is Southside?

Southside is an American music artist, producer, and songwriter from Atlanta, Georgia. His real name is Joshua Howard Luellen and he was born on February 2nd, 1988. Southside has been active in the music industry since 2010. He has worked with major artists such as Young Thug, Future, Juicy J, 2 Chainz, Post Malone, Jeezy, and Meek Mill. His work has earned him multiple awards including a Grammy nomination for his production on Travis Scott's 'Sicko Mode'.

Early Career

Southside began producing beats at the age of 16. He quickly gained an impressive portfolio with production credits on albums by Waka Flocka Flame, Gucci Mane, and Wale. In 2011 he co-founded the production team 808 Mafia with fellow producer Lex Luger. That same year he produced Future's 'Tony Montana' which went on to become one of the most popular tracks of 2011. Since then Southside has gone on to produce hit songs for a variety of artists including Lil Yachty, Chief Keef, 21 Savage, and more.

Recent Work

In 2017 Southside released his debut solo album ''Trap Ye''. The album featured guests such as Future, Big Bank Black, Young Scooter and more. The album was well received by fans and critics alike. In 2018 he released his second solo album ''Free Agent'' which featured guest appearances from Quavo, 2 Chainz and 21 Savage. He also released a mixtape titled ''No Sleep Vol. 1'' which featured guest appearances from Lil Uzi Vert, Metro Boomin and more.

Achievements

Southside is credited with producing a majority of Travis Scott's third studio album ''Astroworld''. Many of the songs featured on the album were produced by Southside including the hit single 'Sicko Mode'. For his work on Astroworld Southside was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album in 2019. He has also won multiple awards such as Best Producer at the 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards and Best Collaboration at the 2020 iHeartRadio Music Awards.
