Early Life
Sujatha was born in Chennai and was raised in a musical family. Her father was a well-known music composer while her mother was a Carnatic classical singer. She attended P.S. Senior Secondary School in Chennai, where she developed an interest in music and began taking lessons in Carnatic classical music. She later studied at Ethiraj College for Women in Chennai and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology.
Career
Sujatha made her debut as a playback singer with the song 'Ninaivo Oru Paravai' from the film 'Kizhakku Cheemayile' (1993). Since then, she has sung over 5000 songs for various filmmakers across South India. She has worked with some of the most acclaimed composers such as A.R. Rahman, Harris Jayaraj, Ilaiyaraaja and Deva among others. She has had many hit songs including 'Kadhal Rojave', 'Chikku Bukku Rayile', 'Poo Pookum Osai' and 'Konjam Nilavu'.
