History of Switchfoot
Switchfoot is an alternative rock band from San Diego, California, formed in 1996. The current line-up consists of Jon Foreman (lead vocals and guitar), Tim Foreman (bass guitar and backing vocals), Chad Butler (drums and percussion), Jerome Fontamillas (keyboard and guitar) and Drew Shirley (guitar and backing vocals).
The band is best known for their 2003 single “Meant to Live” which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart. They have released 10 studio albums, with their most recent being Native Tongue in 2019. Throughout their career they have earned numerous awards including 8 GMA Dove Awards, 5 San Diego Music Awards, 1 American Music Award, 1 Grammy Award and many more.
Breakthrough with The Beautiful Letdown
Switchfoot’s breakthrough album was released in 2003 entitled “The Beautiful Letdown”. It featured the hit single “Meant to Live” which reached #3 on the Billboard Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart. The album also featured the singles “Dare You to Move” and “This Is Your Life” which both received significant radio airplay.
The album was certified double platinum in the United States and was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Gospel Album. It proved to be a critical success as well with Rolling Stone magazine giving it 4 out of 5 stars and Q magazine awarding it 4 out of 5 stars as well.

In 2006 Switchfoot released their sixth studio album entitled “Oh! Gravity” which featured the single “Awakening” which peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart. The album was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Gospel Album.
