The band consisted of Brian Connolly (vocals), Steve Priest (bass/vocals), Andy Scott (guitars/vocals) and Mick Tucker (drums/vocals).
The Sweet was formed in London in 1968. Initially, they were part of the glam rock scene and released several successful singles, such as “Little Willy”, “Blockbuster” and “Hell Raiser”. They also released their debut album Funny How Sweet Co-Co Can Be that same year.
In 1973, The Sweet achieved their breakthrough with the single “Ballroom Blitz”, which reached number two on the UK Singles Chart. This success was followed by other hit singles, such as “Teenage Rampage”, “Blockbuster” and “The Six Teens”. In 1974, their fourth studio album Desolation Boulevard was released.
In 1978, The Sweet released their fifth studio album Level Headed. The lead single from the album, “Love Is Like Oxygen”, reached number eight on the UK Singles Chart. In 1981, they released their last studio album Cut Above The Rest. After this album, they disbanded due to personal differences.
The Sweet is considered to be one of the most influential glam rock bands of all time. Their music has been covered by many artists and they have been cited as an influence by a number of bands including Mötley Crüe and Def Leppard. They were also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.
