The Zombies Story
The Zombies were an English rock band, formed in 1961 in St Albans, Hertfordshire. The original line-up consisted of lead vocalist Colin Blunstone, keyboardist Rod Argent, bassist Chris White, rhythm guitarist Paul Atkinson and drummer Hugh Grundy.
The band released its self-titled debut album, The Zombies, in 1964. It contained their best-known hit single “She’s Not There”, which reached number 12 on the UK Singles Chart. Soon after the release of their second album, Odessey and Oracle (1968), the band split up.
The Zombies had great success in the US with their single “Time of the Season” from their second album. It reached number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1969 and has since become a classic 60’s hit. The song was later used in the movie Shaun of the Dead (2004) and covered by many other artists.
The Zombies Reunion
After a long break, The Zombies reunited in 2001 for a tour. They released two new albums: As Far as I Can See... (2004) and Breathe Out, Breathe In (2011). Since then they have been touring regularly and playing festivals around the world.
Legacy
The Zombies were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019. They have been a huge influence on many bands such as The Kinks, R.E.M., Blur and Oasis. Their music is still popular today and continues to inspire new generations of music fans.
