Three Dog Night is an American rock band that formed in 1967. The original members of the band were Danny Hutton (vocals/guitar), Chuck Negron (vocals/guitar), Cory Wells (vocals/guitar), Joe Schermie (bass guitar), Michael Allsup (guitar), and Jimmy Greenspoon (keyboards).
Early Career Success
The group's first hit was a cover of the song ""Nobody"" by the R&B group The Hombres. The single peaked at number five on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1969. This success was followed by covers of other popular songs such as Randy Newman's ""Mama Told Me Not to Come"", Harry Nilsson's ""One"", and George Baker Selection's ""Little Green Bag"".
Commercial Success
The band released their debut album, Three Dog Night, in 1968. It was followed by Suitable for Framing in 1969 which peaked at number seven on the US Billboard 200 chart. Their next album, It Ain't Easy, was released in 1970 and was certified gold in the US. In 1971, Three Dog Night released Harmony which included their hit single, ""Joy to the World"". The song became their first and only number one hit on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Later Releases
The band continued to release albums throughout the 70s and 80s. In 1985, they recorded their last studio album with all six original members titled One Is the Loneliest Number.
