Early Life & Career Beginnings

Vico C was born Armando Lozada in New York City on September 8th, 1968. His family moved to Puerto Rico when he was two years old, where he grew up in the town of Bayamón. He began his musical career at the age of 14 when he formed the group “Los Fieros” with three friends. The group released their first album in 1988, but it wasn’t until 1991 that Vico C gained mainstream success with his hit single “La Recta Final”.

Rise to Fame & Later Success

In 1992, Vico C released his second album titled Aquel Que Había Muerto (He Who Had Died). The album quickly rose to number 1 on the Billboard Tropical chart and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The success of this album led to the release of his third album, El Filósofo (The Philosopher), which was released in 1994. This album spawned several hit singles, including “La Vecinita” and “Mentira”, which both reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart. In 1996, Vico C released his fourth album Sub-Zero which featured the hit single “Bomba Para Afincar”.

Awards & Recognition

Vico C has been awarded numerous awards for his contribution to Latin music. In 1998, he won a Grammy for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album for Aquel Que Había Muerto. He also won two Latin Grammys in 2002 for Best Urban Music Album for Desahogo and Best Urban Song for “Mentirosa”. In 2009, he received the Billboard Lifetime Achievement Award at the Billboard Latin Music Awards.
