Born 1978 in Tokyo, Japan, he is a DJ, trackmaker, producer, and turntablist. He started his career as a DJ at the age of 16, and in the late 1990s, he played in the hip-hop group Hannya with Hannya and Rumi. After the group disbanded, he released the mixtape "KAIKOO WITH SCRATCH 1999" on DIS-DEFENSE DISC, a label he founded himself in 1999. In 2001, he participated in the DJ KRUSH NIKE "Presto" music project. In 2005, he released the DVD "KAIKOO", a film documenting DJ BAKU and Tokyo's independent music scene, and in 2006, he released the album "SPINHEDDZ" (which was released in 2008 on N2O Records by DJ Starscream of Slipknot and Omar of The Mars Volta). In 2006, he released the album "SPINHEDDZ" (which was also released in the US by N2O Records, led by DJ Starscream of Slipknot and Omar of The Mars Volta), and in 2008, he released his second album "DHARMA DANCE" from POPGROUP and the song "AKBAH ATTACK" was used in the Cannes Film Festival. In 2009, he released "THE 12JAPS" featuring 12 of Japan's leading rappers, and the official mix CD "JAPADAPTA". In 2010, DJ BAKU initiated and organized "KAIKOO POPWAVE FESTIVAL'10", an urban music festival organized by "POPGROUP" at the special stage of Harumi Cruise Terminal in Tokyo, attracting more than 10,000 people over two days, making it the largest scale event ever held at the terminal since 2005. In 2012, he formed a unit with KYONO (ex.THE MAD CAPSULE MARKETS) to perform at FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL'12. They have appeared on stage 5 times as DJ at FUJIROCK since their first appearance in '0 3) Participated in the movie "009 RE:CYBORG" tribute. TURNTABLE RIDER, which he was in charge of the soundtrack, won an international award at the LONDON INTERNATIONAL AWARD "Film Category". In 2015, he won the OUTLOOK FESTIVAL JAPAN 2015 SOUND CLASH using KOHH and FIREBALL's DUB PLATE. In the same year, he released his album "NEO TOKYO RAVE STYLE", which became a hot topic with the participation of UK artists such as Ryo (Crystal Lake), Benji (Skindred), and RAGGA TWINS. He established KAIKOO Co., Ltd. in 2018. In the same year, he joined the Turntable Orchestra formed by US and Japanese artists at the Louvre Abu-Dhabi and performed for two days. In 2019, he was in charge of the music for the movie "VIDEOPHOBIA" directed by Daisuke Miyazaki. Album "K.A.I.K.O.O" was released in 2020, and in 2021, he provided the Remix for the official Pokémon Youtube channel DJ Pikachu Lightning. 1978年東京生まれ。プロデューサー/DJ/ターンテーブリスト。16歳のころにDJのキャリアをスタートさせる。1990年代後半に般若とRumiとともにヒップホップ・グループ、般若で活動。グループ解散後、1999年にみずから設立したレーベル〈DISDEFENSEDISC〉よりミックステープ『KAIKOO WITH SCRATCH 1999』をリリースし、ソロ・デビュー。その後同レーベルからミックステープを数枚発表、自主レーベルながら総計30000本以上のセールスとなる。2001年、DJ KRUSH NIKE “Presto”楽曲に参加。2005年、BAKUと東京のインディペンデント・ミュージック・シーンをドキュメントした映画『KAIKOO/邂逅』のDVDが完成。2006年にはトータル・プロデュースを手がけたファースト・アルバム 『SPINHEDDZ』(2008年にはSlipknotのDJ StarscreamやMarsVoltaのOmar率いるN2O RecordsよりUS盤もリリース)を、 2008年にはセカンド・アルバム『DHARMA DANCE』を〈POPGROUP〉より発表、いとうせいこうとのコラボや収録曲「AKBAH ATTACK」はカンヌ国際映画祭出展作品にも使用されるなど話題となる。2009年、国内のインディペンデント・ミュージックで構成したオフィシャル・ミックス CD『JAPADAPTA』と、日本を代表する12人のラッパーをフィーチャーし た『THE 12JAPS』を立て続けにリリース。 2010年には、DJ/プロデューサーとしてロックとダンス・ミュージックの融合を試みた、DJ BAKU HYBRID DHARMA BANDを結成。 同年、BAKUが発起人となり〈POPGROUP〉が主催する都市型音楽フェス〈KAIKOO POPWAVE FESTIVAL'10〉を東京晴海客船ターミナル特設ステージで開催。2日間で1万人以上が集まり、2005年からはじまった同イベントで過去最大規模となる。2011 年 やくしまるえつこ (ex 相対性理論)「少年よ我に帰れ」REMIX提供。2012 年 音源を担当したTURNTABLE RIDERがLONDON INTERNATIONAL AWARD「フィルム部門」で海外賞を受賞。渋谷慶一郎の初音ミクアルバムにREMIX提供。KYONO(ex.THE MAD CAPSULE MARKETS)とのユニットを結成し、FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL’12に出演（’03年の初出場以来、FUJIROCKではDJとして5回ステージに出演している）映画「009 RE:CYBORG」トリビュートに楽曲提供 2013 年 mabanua、Shing02、N’夙川BOYSも参加した5年ぶりのアルバム 『JapOneEra』を発表。全国40箇所に及ぶTOURを行う。2015 年 OUTLOOK FESTIVAL JAPAN 2015 SOUND CLASHでKOHH、FIREBALLのDUB PLATEを使い優勝。同年、5枚目のALBUM「NEO TOKYO RAVE STYLE」をRELEASE。Ryo(Crystal Lake)、Benji(Skindred)、RAGGA TWINS等のUK勢も参加し話題になる。2018 年 KAIKOO Co., Ltd.を設立。　同年ルーブル美術館Abu-DhabiにてUS10名、日本10名ほどで結成されたTurntableオーケストラに参加・2日間に渡り公演を行う。ヒプノシスマイク”シンジュク・ディビジョン” REMIX提供。2019 年 宮崎大祐監督作品 映画「VIDEOPHOBIA」音楽担当。2020年12月、通算6枚目のNEW ALBUM 「K.A.I.K.O.O.」リリース。2021 年 ポケモン公式Youtubeチャンネル DJ Pikachu Lightning Remix提供。ルーツとなるHIPHOPのみならずInstrumentalを中心としたアニソン～WORLD MUSICまでも取り入れたDJプレイやBMX、ケン玉の世界大会の選曲担当などジャンルを越境した活動をますます積極的に行っている。また韓国、台湾、フィリピン、フランス、ロシア、 オーストラリア、ニュージーランドなどにも招聘され海外のDJやラッパー、バンドらとも交流し国際的な活動も展開している。
