Biography

Based out of Berlin, the franco-german producer & DJ always keeps one hand in the Indie Dance and Post-Disco world, while the other one is wandering in more psychedelic, cosmic and spiritual realms, blended with sonic-influences gathered from his numerous travels around the world. A winning combination that’s seen him release music on imprints such as Eskimo Recordings, Days of Being Wild, Rockets & Ponies while being remixed by the likes of Chaim, Ewan Pearson, Manfredas, Moscoman & Rodion… After bringing out a chart topping remix for Aisha Badru (now counting over 3,4 million plays on Spotify), Franz Matthews joined forces with DJ duo Local Suicide on their infamous ‘Meditation / Tutan Jamon’ EP, which has been making waves all around the world. This release also marked the creation of a new live show, which he unravelled for the first time at the legendary Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg. Over the last years, Franz Matthews has been digging deeper into numerous spiritual paths, leading him in wanting more and more to join the dots between electronic music and spirituality. ‘The Question‘ is the first output of this new journey, it is a spiritual and heady electronic track, that Matthews made in collaboration with well-known french ‘happiness coach’ Jonathan Lehmann (Les Antisèches du Bonheur). The hypnotic track is constructed as a guided meditation, with the music evolving along with the lyrics of a narrator asking the listener to identify and feel what he is actually experiencing in the present moment. Set to be released on the english label ‘Everything Will Be OK’, along with remixes from Aera (Innervisions), The Organism (Disco Halal) and Milio (half of the duo Tunnelvisions), ‘The Question’ has already been getting nice traction from big players like Innervisions label heads Âme, and is expected to be a standout release with its original concept of guiding dancers to experience themselves and their clubbing environment in a whole new way. In parallel, and when he’s not messing around with his other music projects Languages or Moon Wave, Franz Matthews is keeping himself busy managing his own label HIFI/LOFI Records and running his MOWD production studio.
