Biography

Born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand, Ian Munro has been making major waves in the electronic music scene. While some artists opt to build massive brands and flashy personas, Ian Munro goes by his real name; a testament to the authenticity and openness of his work. The music comes from his head and heart directly to fans. Whether it’s nostalgia, melancholy, or anxiousness, his music is assured to make you feel. Ian Munro started 2019 off with ‘Violence’ on San Holo’s label imprint Bitbird’s Gouldian Finch 3 compilation. Closely followed up with the release of the Liminal EP on UZ’s Quality Goods Records, Ian Munro truly came into his own, baring his soul with the project. Visceral and honest, the release was a major milestone for his new direction. It also showcased him expanding his artistic offering by leveraging his own vocals. This stellar change in direction saw Ian Munro set the stage for his future vision. Fast forward 2020, the now Sydney-based producer returned to Trap Nation’s Lowly Palace subdivision for a series of monthly releases, highlighting a diverse range of his own vocal capabilities – from softer cuts like Setting Fires, to the long-awaited Sleepwalking (Through The Night). Returning in 2021 with his tertiary EP Solipsism, Ian sought an Independent route, flexing his capabilities for total creative control. Solipsism very much picks up where Liminal left off, continuing the exploration of emotional vulnerability through the very personal act of singing/songwriting. Notably, Hurts (Like Hell) and Not There show the range of Ian’s production and songwriting, drawing on influences from hip-hop, to punk, to modern dance music. Solipsism sets the tone for a very big year, with an entirely fulfilled creative vision, and a DIY approach. In just a few years Ian Munro has had the pleasure of doing a coheadlining tour with Ministry Of Sound in Australia and New Zealand and his own headlining tours in both markets extra to some milestones appearances such as Rhythm & Vines Festival & more... He’s also played sold out shows at SXSW with Space Yacht and Quality Records’ LA showcase. With support from some of the most influential artists in the scene including: Alison Wonderland, San Holo, Mt Eden, UZ, QUIX, Skrillex, RL Grime, Diplo, Zeds Dead, and Hardwell, Ian Munro’s talent is undeniable.
