Josh Forehead is an alien by way of Kampala, Uganda. His sound has gritty hip-hop bones with a signature indie African flair, drawing from spirits like Naira Marley, Pink Floyd, and Playboi Carti. Since his 2018 debut, the 22- year-old has released 5 albums, launched a clothing line, and developed one of Uganda’s most interesting breakout stars, Mark Mick. His latest release, Episodic Memories came alongside a self-written, directed, and scored short-film of the same name, set in a dystopian future where human consciousness is digitally harvested so we may live forever in artificial afterlives. The project which is wholly self-produced and features other Ugandan cult stars like mwami and Juma, has garnered him editorial support and playlisting from Hot New Hip-Hop, TANGAZA Magazine, and Xpressions UG. Josh is a pioneer in Uganda’s alternative scene, having founded the studio where many Kampala’s “alte kids” got their start and pushing the bounds of multidimensional world-building with each release.
