It was early 2001. I wrote Moving Paradigm as part of the Tectonic Blur EP for the label NRK Sound Division. About a month earlier their A&R, Redg Weeks, had sent me an email asking if I had any tracks that might fit the label. NRK was and still is one of my favorite House labels of all time, so you can imagine how excited I was to get a request directly from them. Moving Paradigm was the first of three tracks on that record, which I wrote using my Akai MPC 2000XL and a ton of samples. Every sound in the track came from sampling other records. My technique, if you can call it that, was to randomly take 10 or 20 records from my collection - I would literally sometimes close my eyes when picking out the records - and then sample any sound I found interesting. Once I recorded the samples, I’d import them into the MPC, chop them up, clean ‘em, tune ‘em, and then start composing from a collection of anywhere between 32 to 120+ samples. I made music in this way with a couple of other friends back then. We called this the ‘Mise En Place’ method of music creation. Like I said, Moving Paradigm was released 21 years ago. If I made the track today I'd make it exactly the same. - Mazi Music, production, mix, and mastering by Maziar Namvar Illustration by Ernesto Perez Video by Mark Almaria ISRC: USQYW2200015 Fresh Meat Records 2022
