Spotted and signed on Jacques’ record label (Pain Surprises) Basile Di Manski is a pop musician as well as a visual artist. His surrealist universe, bordering on kitsch and Lo-Fi, projects through a variety of media platforms: albums, concerts, videoclips, digital art, memes and large format paintings. Due to long-term health problems in his teens, Basile experienced synesthetic visions which eventually became the most significant influence on the way he interpreted art. Like the surf and skateboard videos of the 90's, the music, lyrics and images, are endlessly mixing and turning around in his head. To turn his visions into reality, Basile works outside the box, constantly reinventing himself. For his 1st EP release in 2016, In Camera, he wanted to engage his audience and meet all of his fans, one by one. He gave a series of private concerts in a hotel room for 3 people per session. More than 300 people ended up booking for the event and he went on to perform uninterrupted for 12 hours straight. After his second EP was released in 2018, he worked for almost a year on the videoclip for Chasing You. The idea was simple: to fingerboard, drifting over a woman’s body and turning traditional urban landscapes into the curves and silhouette of the body. This single will be played on board all Air France planes upon take-off, for 1 year. For the release of his first album, Transworld (2019), Basile collaborated with Jacques and Cyprien Clément-Delmas (Canada creative production) on the track Before The World. The clip will be released globally and it addresses the climate change problem with wicked irony. Basile is also well-recognised among the various featuring artists of Victor LeMasne eponyme album, (Housse de Racket, Gaspard Augé, Philippe Katerine...) alongside artists such Metronomy or Mayer Hawthorne. During the 1st lock-down, Basile left Pain Surprises Records to grant himself an opportunity to experience a deeper artistic freedom. A few weeks later, he established Californie Mentale SAS. The brand is as unclassifiable as he is; on one hand it is used as a record label to release his latest mixtape Les Nouveaux Quartiers (2021), and the other, a digital store for his surrealist paintings and merchandising items.
