Continuity is a pinnacle state of the pursuit of human being; a state which we have an inescapable yearning towards. For it is fundamental and universal, this as a theme has not evaded the prying eyes of neither individuals nor myth and religion in their search for truth. The selfless doctrine of ‘oneness’ in Buddhism, accounts of altered mental states on psychedelics that describe vividly the disintegrating of the self, and the body of Christ, as it consists of many and vessels the one Spirit; all allude to continuity. Ever-pervasive to our existence, yet elusive to our tongue, continuity can be made sense of in various ways. It’s what we admire in a cat, per se, how he is in his nature unburdened by a consciousness resembling ours; a name, a self that is distinct, an “I” for the “other”. It is also sex at its most intimate, venturing into dissolution in another such that it renders all pillars of identity meaningless. Continuity is a deeply encoded self-destruct function of individualism; the separation from ‘one’ to realize a single ‘one’, only to yearn through its existence for the return. For Bataille “continuity” is transcendence, it’s being “water in water” only lived in short bursts and reflections, as if living in Plato’s cave, as long as we are alive, it teases us, it’s reason for death’s seductiveness. Bataille’s underrated system of ideas create a great sense of where the lines between, death, life, art, religion, sex and love intersect; thus giving us a great push in order to explore what art can be within the living space that is dominated by postmodern and post-truth inclinations. So goes the concept and inspiration for the song “Bataille’s Will”, where a Bataillean link between myself, the composer, and you, the listener, is the primary focus. And it is inevitable, that the form of direct connection between the artwork and the viewer made possible by this NFT platform, is where this piece of electronic composition flourishes most completely.
