Rufous Fishing Owl

The Rufous Fishing Owl is an elusive bird endemic to the Upper Guinea Forests found between Sierra Leone and Ghana. It lives along river and lagoon edges, where it hunts at night, feeding on fish, freshwater crabs and amphibians. Pairs ‘duet’ with soft, dove-like low hoots. Classified as ‘Vulnerable’, it is threatened by continuing clearance of mangrove and forest in the region.
