Biography

Silvestre Peguero: A Brief Overview Silvestrino Peguero Martinez, better known artistically as Silvestre Peguero is a bachata artist from the Dominican Republic. Peguero has been in the music industry since the mid 70s and is known as one of the front-runners in the revolution of Bachata in the late 70s and early 80s. Rise to Fame Peguero had brought a young 21 year old Danilo Alcantara, also known as El Papi Bueno to record and join his band as they would record "El Puñalito De Acero" which would become a big hit in 1980. The song had caused great controversy with Radhames Aracena and the owner of Faviola as Peguero would re-record the song, adding a second guitar in the recording. This song would be the start and popularization of pirateering in Bachata music as plenty of black market sellers would make plenty of money off of this recording. Involved in other artists recordings Peguero's voice was engraved in many of the big hits that Marino Perez and Nelson Carrasco, including songs such as El Ultimo Golpe (Dime Palomita), Amor A La Buena, and De Esta Barra No Me Voy, to name a few. Legacy Silvestre Peguero is one of the few living legends of Bachata that is still alive today and had made such an impact that changed the genre to a much more acceptable style of music that we all enjoy today.
