Michael Simpson, this ever-persevering musician was born and raised in Jamaica. He always had a passion for music, which drove him to better understand and to eventually learn it. At the age of fourteen, he started teaching himself the music. He bought books and practiced the piano very hard, daily, six to eight hours making up for lost years. After finishing High School, he then decided to study music at the Northern Caribbean University. There, one has to do an audition before starting any of the music programs. Nevertheless, he did one on the piano and successfully passed. It was here that he got his first music teacher. At the University, he studied music with an emphasis in piano (up to grade eight and above). Not only did he study piano but other courses as well. These included courses such as: Music Theory, Orchestration, Music Composition and Music History just to name a few. For the most part he maintained his discipline, especially when it came to practicing the piano and at times was called either “Black Mozart”, “Mozart”, “Moz” and “Pianist” by his friends. While studying, he was happy but somehow wanted to do more with music. He started experimenting with FL Studio in 2008 and fell in love with it, making beats as a hobby during his studies at the university. To him making music is so easy. There are melodies and harmonies constantly playing in his head to last more than his lifetime. As a musician, Michael cannot help it but to constantly make music. “Musicians don’t retire; they stop when there is no more music in them.” (Armstrong). His retiring days are far from over. He continued working very hard during his studies, which eventually paid off with him graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music General. After graduating, he got a job as a Music Teacher at an elementary school and also as a part time instructor at the university where he studied music. There he taught “Introduction to Notation Software” and “Steel Band”. It didn’t take long before Michael decided that he wanted to learn another instrument, the violin, and within two years; he taught himself up to grade 4 level and then started giving classes to beginners. During this time, he never stopped experimenting with FL Studio, making and exploring new sounds. He sees it as being very good to educate others about music; however, he did not enjoy teaching in a classroom. He then migrated to Germany in 2013 and got married. Living there and still with is love for composing music, he decided to study at the Deutsche Pop. There he got a diploma in Audio Engineering and not long afterwards, received a Bachelor's Degree as a Music Technology Specialist from the University of the West London. Having already worked and reached this far with music, Michael Simpson, who is now better known as “Simmozart” is still very much persistent to make an impact with his unique style of creating.
