Brave New World is a cinematic piece based on the novel of the same name by Aldous Huxley, as well as the famous line Shakespeare’s “The Tempest”, “O brave new world, that has such people in it!” Emmrose writes a dystopian-inspired song based on some of her favorite novels like 1984 and Brave New World, while combining themes relevant to today’s seemingly dystopian world. The first line of the song, “hit the soma when the days feel worn, I feel it keenly” was based on the drug "soma", which is a fictional sedative that is from the book Brave New World. The writer finds the concept of using a mind-numbing drug to forget the problems of the world really relevant to how people cope in today's very messed-up world.
