A transdisciplinary artwork funding coral preservation

Plankton Planet is a transdisciplinary artwork with music from Oceanvs Orientalis and video recordings from the Plankton Chronicles Project, a series of short videos combining art and science. They reveal the beauty and diversity of organisms adrift in the currents.

Christian Sardet, Research Director with the CNRS at Villefranche-sur-Mer conceived the first 4 episodes of the series with Véronique Kleiner and Catherine Balladur from CNRS Images (Meudon). All other episodes were produced by Christian Sardet (IMEV & CNRS Côte-d'Azur) with Noe Sardet and Sharif Mirshak, Parafilms, Montreal.

The music, Plankton Planet, is taken from Oceanvs Orientalis’ latest album “Ex Nihilo”, his first thematic album which tells 10 different stories of 10 breaking points of the Universal history. From the Planetary scale to the Human dimension. “It’s an honor to create unique digital artworks with the material produced by Plankton Chronicles and use new technologies to raise awareness” declared Safak Ozkutle “Since NFTs are a digital certificate of ownership, it seemed obvious to join our forces to Coral Guardian and allow NFT collectors to adopt a coral by collecting NFTs”.

Collecting NFTs, adopting corals in Spain

Plankton Planet is the first NFT release in partnership with Coral Guardian, a French NGO acting internationally, and founded in 2012, which aims to protect coral reef ecosystems by implicating local communities and raising awareness among the general public.

Each NFT of Plankton Planet will fund the transplantation of one coral in the Special Conservation Area of the cliffs and seabed of Punta de la Mona, off the coast of the region of Granada in Spain. GPS coordinates of the adopted coral are embedded in the NFT, and collectors will receive a certificate of adoption issued by Coral Guardians.
